Application Instructions

Along with completing the application form, applicants for International Educator of the Year must submit the following supporting materials:   

  • One letter of support
    The letter must be from an administrator or colleague.  The letter of support should contain specific references to overall teaching performance and cultural contributions to the classroom, school and community.

  • A video or a portfolio
    You can choose to submit either a video or a portfolio.

    Video:  If you choose to submit a video, it should be up to three minutes in length and include images and audio that clearly demonstrate how you have integrated culture into your teaching, school and/or community.  View examples from last year's winners here and here.  The video should be saved on a CD or DVD that has nothing else stored on it.  Ensure that you've obtained the appropriate permissions for your students to be included in the video before submitting.

    -OR-

    Portfolio:   If you choose to submit a portfolio, it should include photos and text that clearly explain how you have integrated culture into your teaching, school and/or community.  The portfolio must be printed and should not exceed six pages in length.  Ensure that you've obtained the appropriate permissions for your students to be included in the portfolio materials before submitting.

  • An essay that responds to ONE of the following questions
    The essay must include your name and question.  Please single space and do not exceed 300 words.  The word limit does not include the question and your name.

    Question 1:  Describe a challenge you have faced as an international teacher.  How are you addressing or have you addressed this challenge?

    -OR-

    Question 2:  How has teaching in the U.S. affected your perspective on teaching or education in general?
